Job Description

The RF Photonics and Materials Division (RFPAM) is comprised of researchers with a diverse set of skills spanning RF and microwave engineering, microwave photonics, advanced materials, digital signal processing, systems engineering, packaging, mathematics, and physics. While our work is driven by applied research, it runs the gamut from "blue sky" concepts for the future battlespace to system-based solutions to be fielded on future platforms.

RFPAM seeks graduate research assistants (GRAs) interested in performing research in the fields of radio frequency photonics, microelectronics, and advanced materials to join our team. Chosen candidates will build and expand GTRI’s research portfolio in these areas and mature high-impact technologies. The ideal candidate has the excellent communication skills and self-starting adaptability to thrive in a dynamic startup-like environment.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Graduate Research Assistant

  • Pursuing an on-campus Master’s degree or PhD at Georgia Tech in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, or Math
  • Must be enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours)
  • Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must commit to 15-20 hours of work per week

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of and design experience with photonic components and/or radio frequency components
  • Practical laboratory skills with test equipment such as network analyzers, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers
  • Familiar with fundamental concepts in electromagnetics, photonics, digital signal processing, and electronic devices and a willingness to develop new areas of expertise
  • Programming skills in MATLAB, LabView, and Python
  • High-energy, can-do attitude

15–20 hours per week

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
