Job Description

Work as an ADMS Principal Power Systems Consultant in a casual and fun team setting to implement modern software for utility grid management.  Familiarity with the utility industry is essential.

This is an opening for an ADMS Principal Power Systems Consultant, reporting directly to an Executive Vice President.  You will play a pivotal role in delivery of ADMS implementations and integration from our leading ADMS software partners, providing consulting services to our existing customers on product installation, integration development, interface support, GIS Feeder Modeling, application tuning, and system maintenance.  You will also have opportunities to work on the implementation of new and innovative Distributed Energy Resource Systems (DERMS). In addition, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Travel to customer sites across the country.
  • Work from home.
  • Solve complex implementation, requirement, design, and business process challenges.
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on various ADMS and DERMS products
  • Become SME on electrical power system network modeling

This opportunity will require that you understand the procedures and expected system applications and integrations that are being delivered for GridBright customers.  Your primary responsibility is to ensure on-time project delivery, which requires a clear understanding of expectations of project assignments.  You will be part of a core project team working on projects to meet the project deliverables and timelines.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Work experience supporting and deploying production ADMS software
  • Background in power systems engineering.
  • Background in electrical distribution system modeling and model validation
  • Experience with one or more of the following DMS applications:
    • Unbalanced Power Flow/Load Flow
    • Volt/VAR Optimization (VVO)
    • Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) Applications
    • Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration (FLISR)
    • Fault Location Analysis (FLA)
    • Distribution State Estimation (DSE)
  • Experience with Office applications including:Innovative thinker with a drive to learn and implement new technologies
    • Excel and Word
  • Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated teamwork and customer focus
  • High standards of professional ethics
  • Willing and able to travel to customer project sites in North America
  • Right to work in the US (e.g., US citizen or permanent resident)
  • Electrical Engineering or Computer Science degree

Desired Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering M.S. degree or higher with power systems emphasis or equivalent
  • Familiarity with issues and solutions to integrating renewable energy resources to the grid 
  • Working in the utility industry at one or more of the following:Customer facing work experience
    • Electrical utility working with grid management systems
    • ADMS vendor including: ABB, ACS, GE, Oracle OSI, Schneider Electric, Siemens
    • System Integrator/System Implementation vendor
    • Electrical utility consulting firm
  • Electrical distribution system analysis in one or more of the following systems:
    • Cyme Power Engineering Software (CYMEDIST)
    • DNV Synergi Electric
    • OpenDSS
    • GridLab-D/GridApps-D
    • PowerWorld
  • Electrical distribution system modeling and model validation experience:Experience modeling Distributed Energy Resources (DERs)
    • Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) including:
      • ESRI, Intergraph, GE/Smallworld
    • Distribution system models and related tools including:
      • GE Electric Office, Schneider ArcFM, IEC Common Information Model (CIM)
    • Power System model conversion tools such as SafeFME
  • Experience with scripting and/or programming in one or more of the following languages:Experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
    • Python
    • C/C++
    • Java
    • SQL
  • Experience with Outage Management Systems (OMS)
  • Experience with Distribution Operator’s Training Simulator (DOTS)
  • Experience with Distribution Automation
  • Experience with Unix/Linux Operating System
