The Integrated Innovation Institute (III) at Carnegie Mellon University, seeks adjunct professor for the spring 2020 term for the Integrated Product Development (IPD) Capstone course. This position would teach students within the Master of Integrated Innovation for Products & Services (MIIPS) degrees. The IPD Capstone course is the heart of the MIIPS curriculum, bringing together the disciplines of engineering, design and business to solve client sponsored problems with our fuzzy front end product development process. The IPD Capstone course is team taught, so this role will work closely with two other faculty members.  The other faculty members will have business and design backgrounds. This course will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30am-1:20pm throughout the spring term (January-May 2020).   Qualified candidates will have previous teaching and work experience in engineering (preferably mechanical engineering), new product development and innovation practices.   Teaching skills should include using assigned textbook readings, facilitating group discussions, written assignments, oral presentations, and individual research.

Below is the standard course description for IPD Capstone course within the MIIPS degree:

The Integrated Product Development (IPD) course focuses on team-based integrated product development among engineering, business, and design disciplines. The semester course consists of four modules including identifying, understanding, conceptualizing and introducing a product opportunity. Interdisciplinary teams of students in engineering, business, and industrial design learn methods to research the needs, wants and desires of a market opportunity, define product specifications, conceptualize products to meet the users' needs and desires and refine the most promising concept. The result is a resolved form, functional design, and marketing plan. The course also focuses on communication of the project through multiple presentations and reports. This course is intended for MIIPS students; all other students by permission of the instructor.

This course is part of the MIIPS required curriculum, which cross-trains students across engineering, design and business disciplines to become elite innovators. Details about the full curriculum can be view here: https://www.cmu.edu/iii/degrees/miips/curriculum.html
