Job Description

The Aerospace Transportation and Advanced Systems Laboratory – Aerospace and Acoustics Technologies Division (ATAS-AATD) is searching for an experienced Acoustic Beamforming and Digital Signal Processing Engineer to conduct research related to acoustics and signal processing. The desired candidate should possess a solid knowledge of digital signal processing and statistical signal processing including array processing theory and applications. The desired candidate would be knowledgeable in the implementation and testing of real-time algorithms for acoustic beamforming, adaptive noise reduction, adaptive filtering, source localization and blind source separation. The candidate should also possess familiarity with analyzing measured data, working with acoustic transducers and perform field data acquisitions. The desired candidate must be an excellent communicator who can work within a dynamic team environment to support design, development and analysis of complex systems. Moreover, the candidate should have familiarity with the peer review publishing and review process and have familiarity working in a laboratory environments.

Job Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to support problem analysis
  • Apply digital signal processing and beamforming to challenging engineering problems
  • Analyze large amount of measured data and formulate hypotheses regarding physical behaviors
  • Contribute to development of new concepts and theories from observations
  • Participate in collaborative engineering analysis sessions
  • Organize results of studies into written form for publication, presentation, or dissemination in form of technical reports, manuscripts and conference or journal publications as required
  • Interact with customer representatives as necessary to complete project objectives
  • Deliver oral presentations to peers and customers on research findings

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Acoustics or other related field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Acoustics or other related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Acoustics or other related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Acoustics or other related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than May, 2020
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
    • Signal processing, array processing and beamforming
    • Testing, implementation, and use of acoustical sensors
    • Open source software tools
    • Programming experience in Matlab, Python, C and C++
    • Experience with Matlab Signal Processing, Statistics and Machine Learning and Phased Array Toolboxes
    • Acquisition and analysis of measured data

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing research projects, making technical presentations, and writing reports is preferred.
  • Ideal candidates will have nationally recognized technical contributions with record of publication and technical seminar presentations.
  • Active Secret Clearance

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
