The Faculty of Engineering invites applications for a

 W3 Professorship for Sensor Technology

at the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering to be filled by 1 October 2018. This position is a permanent appointment.

The successful candidate is expected to represent the field adequately in research and teaching and to head the Chair of Sensor Technology.

Applicants are expected to have made an outstanding contribution to research in one or more of the following areas and have gained relevant experience in projects or industry:

  • Sensors and actuators for mechatronic or medical engineering systems
  • Sensors for automation and production technology,
    including quality control or material characterisation
  • Acoustic or optical sensors
  • Integrated sensors and embedded sensor signal processing
  • Microintegrated sensors
  • Sensors in networks

A willingness to contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations with other departments throughout FAU, with non-university research institutes and with industry is expected.

The successful candidate will be involved in teaching the degree programmes offered by the Department and related fields within the Faculty of Engineering, participating in particular in the compulsory lectures and practicals on "Foundations of Electrical Engineering" and teaching the compulsory lecture “Sensor Technology”. The professor is also expected to teach advanced courses specialising in sensor technology in Master’s degree programmes.

Prerequisites for the position are a university degree, teaching experience in higher education, a doctoral degree and additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic publications. The necessary qualifications may also have been acquired in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as a W1 Professor or Assistant Professor).
