Basic Function

 

The Vehicle Technology Integration Team Leader will be responsible for developing, implementing, and demonstrating innovative engine and vehicle technologies in a multi-disciplinary team environment. The Team Leader will manage and mentor an existing group of experienced engineers and collaborate with teams within the Detroit Research Center dedicated to Passenger Transport and Commercial Transport research activities. The Team Leader will report directly to the Center Leader and be responsible for managing resources, budgets and external suppliers in an effort to deliver center-wide project milestones. The Team Leader will also collaboration and coordination with colleagues within the global Fuel Technology team in Paris, France and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for leading and managing a powertrain and vehicle electronic controls team and associated resources to achieve research and technology demonstration goal
  • Manage and develop software required to demonstrate light-duty and heavy-duty engine and vehicle technologies
  • Conduct internal and external technical presentations
  • Keep current with significant developments in the field of engine and vehicle controls
  • Provide and manage a safe, accident-free laboratory environment; follow all company safety rules in performing job duties
  • Attend relevant conferences and technical forums
  • Manage and develop annual budgets covering activities within the Vehicle Integration team responsibility
  • Perform annual performance evaluations of team members
  • Make comprehensive professional reports of investigations and review existing patents
  • Provide periodic updates on project status as needed
  • Lead collaborative research with other R&D areas of the company, e.g., analytical chemistry, process engineering, applications, etc. for increased intellectual property opportunities and future business advancement of ASC or Saudi Aramco
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

 

Requirements

Education and Experience


  • B.S. Degree in Science/Engineering/Physics/Mathematics Discipline as appropriate for the area of expertise for the assigned job required; PhD is highly preferred
  • Seven (7) years’ experience in a substantive industrial, technological or laboratory area relevant to the job assignment, experience in powertrain or vehicle electronics controls development in an automotive or related field strongly desired
  • Must have demonstrated experience with developing and implementing novel powertrain control solutions
  • Must possess good experience with state-of-the-art control solutions, including approaches used for rapid prototyping, system bypass and SiL/HiL controls environments
  • Working knowledge of gasoline and/or diesel engine controls functions strongly desired
  • Familiar with Matlab/Simulink and industry representative calibration toolchains (e.g. ATI Vision, ETAS INCA or similar)
  • Excellent teamwork and leadership skills are required
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose software and hardware communication issues
  • Hands-on-testing experience of engines in a dynamometer or vehicle lab highly preferred
  • Candidate should be comfortable in working independently or as part of a project team, with frequent project presentation and travel to meetings at conferences and universities
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
