Title: Unmanned Aircraft Mechanical Designer -ATAS -1549

Location: Smyrna, GA
Description: Mechanical Designer for Unmanned Flight Operations and System Integration Branch of the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Division.  Entry Level or Junior Engineer will design parts and assemblies to support system integration projects of unmanned aircraft primarily, and other equipment and vehicles.  Will work with subsystems including propulsion, avionics, payload electronics, RF components and data radios, landing gear, control surfaces, and structural elements.  Additional responsibilities include modeling of existing parts, 3D printing of parts, laser cutting of parts, creating and maintaining systems' bills of materials, and participation in field testing.

Education: B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering.

Experience: This is an Entry-Level or Junior Level position.  Some professional experience in mechanical part design in fielded systems is required.  Experience working in a team environment is also required.

Skills:  Demonstrated skills with design and analysis tools related to mechanical design and electronic integration are needed.  Software experience required includes SolidWorks, Matlab/Simulink, and the Microsoft Office Suite.  Design skills for 3D printed parts, sheet-metal parts, and electronic cooling and wiring considerations are also needed.  Mechanical assembly and test-fitting of parts and assemblies must be mastered.
