Title: UAV Flight Test Lead Researcher - ATAS 1441

Location: Smyrna, GA
Description: Lead Researcher for Unmanned Flight Operations and System Integration Branch of the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Division. Will lead research team in projects pertaining to UAV guidance and control, modeling and simulation, and advanced aircraft subsystems.  Will also be responsible for developing, maintaining, and organizing research and analysis software tools.  Additional software responsibilities include leading design, implementation, testing, and control/organization/maintenance of software for avionics and subsystems for the Systems Integration group.  Flight testing requirements involve ground station operation.

Education: PhD in Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent discipline

Experience: This is a mid-level position requiring proficiency in fixed wing and rotary wing flight controller design, including guidance, navigation, and control avionics and subsystem software design.  Experience in project management and team management is desired.

Skills: Demonstrated skills with design and analysis tools related to aerospace systems (e.g., aircraft and missiles) are needed.  These include programming skill in the following preferred languages: C/C++, Python, Java, ROS, MATLAB, and LabView.  Also, an in-depth understanding of air vehicle guidance, navigation, and control methods and practices using techniques such as PID and advanced, modern approaches is required.

GUST Flight Controller (developed by GIT School of Aerospace Engineering) experience highly desirable, both in ground station operation during flight, but also as a feature developer.

Experience with vision based navigation, image processing, and visual simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) are desirable.
