GENERAL PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, performs planned and corrective maintenance and repair tasks on the self-service, proof-of-payment fare collection system (automatic ticket vending machines (TVM))equipment at each Sounder and Link Light Rail station installed in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
• Under minimal supervision, tests, trouble-shoots, calibrates, adjusts, repairs, overhauls and performs corrective and preventive maintenance on all Transportation Services Department Electronic and Electro-Mechanical devices such as Ticket Vending Machines, Ticket Operating Machines, Smart Card Readers, Coin and Bill Validators, Credit Card Readers, PIN Pads, Communications Interfaces, Microprocessors, complex electronic circuitry, Magnetic Ticket Readers, Data Processors, and Power Supplies.
• Evaluates the utility and condition of electronic systems and equipment; services, troubleshoots, repairs, maintains, designs, and installs equipment; configures computer equipment, utilizing software and other tools to assist with system problem analysis for repair, maintenance, and programming of equipment.
• Uses hand tools and diagnostic equipment appropriate for installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic or electro-mechanical equipment.
• Checks equipment, including test instruments, for preventive maintenance and to ensure compliance with requirements; when necessary, designs and fabricates fixtures, cables, and other items that will facilitate the testing and/or troubleshooting process.
• Utilizes specialized test equipment and diagnostics to locate and correct faults and trouble in the system and associated peripheral equipment; and evaluates the utility and condition of equipment, including buttons, card readers, and other control or display systems.
• Maintains and oversees all records and forms associated with tracking the corrective and preventative maintenance of electronic and electro-mechanical devices; creates and updates records of electronic systems performance, work accomplished, or related information; enters data into maintenance databases; ensures accuracy of data in accordance with Sound Transit requirements.
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
• May oversee the work of contracted vendors performing installation work, ensuring standards in connectivity, quality, and workmanship are met; guides and assists lower level personnel when necessary and/or performs the duties of lower level.
• Provides support to the department on matters as directed; attends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the fields related to area of assignment; incorporates new developments as appropriate; ensures processes, policies and practices are interpreted and applied consistently and effectively; ensures accountability and compliance with all current and applicable state and federal laws, Agency policies and procedures, rules and regulations.


Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma/GED and graduation from technical/trade school in the area of electronics or electronic communication systems, or closely related field and two years of experience performing installation, maintenance, and repair work of computer systems, logic systems, Analog and digital circuitry or electro-mechanical devices; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
Possession of valid Washington State Drivers License.

Required Knowledge of:
• Electronic theory and practice.
• Digital, analog and electro-mechanical equipment.
• Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
• The uses, calibration, and care of electronic test equipment.
• Specialized test equipment and diagnostics used for troubleshooting computer systems.
• Computer programming, computer systems, and peripheral equipment.
• Preventive maintenance procedures for computers and peripheral equipment.
• Cable distribution and basic principles of electricity.
• Electronic data communications systems and equipment.
• Standard electronic wiring, color coding, and connection schemes.
• Computerized and microprocessor controlled electronic systems operation and theory.
• Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation.
• English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and statistical databases.

Required Skill in:
• Utilizing personal computer software programs affecting assigned work and in compiling and preparing spreadsheets and reports.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, management, vendors, outside agencies, community groups and the general public.
• Interpreting and administering policies and procedures sufficient to administer, discuss, resolve, and explain them to staff and other constituencies.
• Diagnosing problems or malfunctions and accomplishing repairs in a minimal amount of time.
• Comprehending and making inferences from material written in the English language and understanding and following complex schematics, circuit diagrams, service orders, work sheets, floor plans, electrical wiring plans, construction blueprints and related documents.
• Making skillful controlled manipulations of small objects such as wiring, tools, and small equipment parts.
• Working in small cramped areas, such as equipment enclosures.
• Learning job-related material through oral instruction, observation, structured lecture, and reading.
• Entering data or information into a computer terminal, personal computer, or other keyboard device.
• Performing simple mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and algebra.
• Working under pressure, handling significant problems or tasks, which come up simultaneously or unexpectedly.
• Working cooperatively with other departments, Agency officials, and outside agencies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Work is performed in a standard office environment.
• Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 40 pounds; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, physical harm, hazardous chemicals, infectious disease, and extreme noise when working in the field.
