• This job is part of the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) program Reshaping initiative. The hired applicant will be hired and initially work in Sunnyvale, California but will be required to move to the Cape Canaveral Florida area in 2019. Therefore, a commitment by the hired applicant to relocate from California to Florida is required. The FBM Reshaping initiative will cover the employee's relocation costs in 2019 per program regulations

• Support the maintenance and operations of sea-based optical instrumentation systems in support of FBM flight testing
• Maintenance activities include the preventative, corrective, and progressive maintenance of system level, subsystem level (electrical/power, optical sensor, data recorder, gimbal, and mechanical), and unit level components
• Operations activities include system level readiness testing, logistical transport support at domestic and foreign shipyards/ports, support ship integration, subsystem troubleshooting, and at-sea system operations
• Helps assist with the plans and coordination of labor, schedules, equipment and testing methods required for maintenance and troubleshooting activities
• Designs, develops, implements and documents testing methods to ensure power and mechanical subsystems are safe and operational
• Performs system calibration testing to generate parameters for optimal gimbal target tracking in preparation of mission operations
• Creates and performs laboratory bench test procedures to define and verify sensor configurations that meet optical data collection objectives
• Requires periodic domestic and foreign travel, including time at-sea on military ships with durations between 7-40 days
• Designs, develops, and implements testing methods and equipment. Assists with planning and arranging the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating standard and special devices. Provides test area with parameters for sample testing and specifies tests to be performed. Compiles data and defines changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements
• Support optical instrumentation data collection missions from a shipboard platform in support of FBM flight testing
• Activities include system, subsystem (electrical/power, visible and MWIR optical sensor, high data rate recording, gimbal, and mechanical), and unit level maintenance, readiness testing, and operational test activities
• Designs, develops, implements and documents testing methods to ensure associated equipment is safe, optimally configured, and operational
• Plans and arranges the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating optical (visible and MWIR) collection systems, 3 phase power systems, internal instrumentation system environment controls, and system validation aboard military support ships
• Compiles data and defines configuration changes required in optical instrumentation equipment and test procedures
• Responsible for testing all refreshed sensor, lens, and recording equipment and for special engineering tests in preparation for operational field use

* Must have an active Final Secret or higher Clearance to be considered for this role
* This position requires special access to support the program and requires the selected candidate to be a US Citizen
* This position requires periodic travel (durations between 7-40 days) and will be relocated to the Cape Canaveral, FL area in 2019

Basic Qualifications
• Experience with optical systems and gear
• Experience with electrical power systems
• Experience with any of the following: connector mate/de-mate, crimping, ESD, FOE, Human Error Prevention, Stepladder Safety, Hardware Torqueing, Crane Operations, and Spotting/Directing

* Must have an active Final Secret or higher Clearance to be considered for this role
* This position requires special access to support the program and requires the selected candidate to be a US Citizen

*Position to relocate to Eastern Range in 2019. Candidate must be willing to relocate

Desired skills
• Experience and application of optical sensor (visible, MWIR, PMT) and power/3 phase transformer distribution principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
• Basic knowledge of FBM Trident II D5 Missile System
• Experience in optical systems support and maintenance
* Knowledge/experience working with and calibrating test and optical equipment
• The ability to work under very general supervision in a team environment, often from remote, shipboard locations. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment and overall adequacy
• Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
• The ability to problem solve and provide solutions to technical problems of moderate scope and complexity
