Description: Under the new leadership of Dean Elizabeth Loboa, the College of Engineering at the University of Missouri (MU) is hiring approximately 20 new faculty in the area of Big Data Analytics. In today’s information-centric world, data are becoming increasingly location based. It is now possible to locate, identify, monitor, track, and correlate objects and people in space and time all over the world in very precise ways that were not possible until very recently due to extensive networks of GPS satellites, high-resolution satellite and airborne imaging sensors (including UAV drones), wireless communication systems, and the emerging Internet of Things (IoT).

 

Consequently, Geospatial Big Data (GBD) science/analytics is an integral part of many important research areas such as defense and security, socio-economic dynamics and modeling, advanced geospatial data exploitation (machine learning, data mining/information retrieval, HPC systems), and heterogeneous information fusion.  Accordingly, we invite applications for multiple faculty positions with demonstrated experience in GBD science/analytics. Applications for tenure-track/tenured positions are solicited at any rank, but with a preference for the assistant / associate professor levels. Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in engineering (e.g. electrical, computer, civil), computer science, data science, or a closely related field. Candidates must have a strong background in the development and/or application of Geospatial Big Data science/analytics and a demonstrated record of securing competitive external research funding. Candidates with application domain experience in defense/security, IoT, spatio-temporal analytics, GIS/remote sensing, precision agriculture and global food security are of particular interest. In addition, new hires will have the potential to be joint hires with the other MU colleges/schools depending on background and interest.
