Job Details

As a member of the Critical Operations Readiness and Execution Team (CORE Team) at Lockheed Martin Space, you’ll have an opportunity to work closely with hardware assembly and test teams and accompany a spacecraft on its journey to a launch site. Short of launch itself, one of the riskiest phases of the spacecraft’s life is the transport to a place like Kennedy Space Center or Korou, French Guiana. Our goal is to devise and employ protective systems, eliminating risk to the asset. Whatever your immediate assignment may be, you’ll use your education, experience and willpower to take on formidable challenges. Meanwhile, you can rely on the resources of a global technology leader to back the kind of innovation that has characterized our historic breakthroughs

CORE Team members are energetic, forward thinking and able to handle rapid changes. We are mobile, possibly one of the highest traveled teams in the company. In a typical month, most team members can expect to travel 2 or 3 times, commonly to locations in California, Colorado, Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana. We are also a hands-on team with the hardware and protective equipment, we are not a team focused solely on information flow. So, if you are a traveler at heart, and don’t mind unusual schedule demands, physical work and getting dirty, this may be a real opportunity for you.

In this role you will be responsible for loading, and transporting spacecraft to launch locations. The job entails writing and executing test procedures, physical spacecraft handling, packaging and transporting. Mechanical skills are employed continuously. More specific responsibilities will include:

• Plan, implement, test, document, and maintain solutions for the integration and testing of in-house developed and COTS/GOTS components, elements, subsystems and/or systems

• Synthesize customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints

• Establish functional and technical specifications and standards, solve hardware/software interface problems, define input/output parameters, and ensure integration of the entire system or subsystem

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience

• Fundamental understanding of aerospace vehicle structures, protective environments, materials and processes, and clean-room operations

• Participation in at least 6 transportation events including shipping containers, trucks, aircraft loading and tarmac safety

• Must have previous experience as lead developer of at least 4 Functional Failure Modes and Effects Analyses

• Must have made substantial progress in completing the Certified Test Conductor qualification

• Hands-on mechanical and electrical diagnosis background

• Must be an excellent writer, without need for peer review and editing of grammar, punctuation and spelling; must have strong verbal skills; and work well in a small team environment

• Must have patience, adopt to changing circumstances, including travel changes

• Must be a United States citizen

• Must have at minimum an Interim Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance

• Must be able to travel up to 35% sometimes with short turnaround trips

Desired skills
• Master's degree and Registered Professional Engineer in any or all of the following states: CA, CO, FL, LA, MS preferred.
• Certified Test Conductor
• Low voltage electrical diagnosis skills (up to 480 volts AC, 3-phase)
• Experience with U.S. government and commercial aerospace programs, and customers thereof
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Project)
• LMSSC Property Custodian certification
• LMSSC Green Belt certification
• NACB or equivalent mobile Crane Director certification
• LMSSC Crane Director, aerial Lift (“PALD”) and walk behind tug and forklift certifications
