This position supports the Orion SEIT team in the design, test and verification of the mission operations of the Orion Spacecraft

The candidate will focus on integration of the Orion software, hardware and NASA mission operations around safe mode, dead bus recovery, redundancy management and nominal mission operations. This includes driving mission requirements to software, working with software and hardware to accomplish mission operations development and validating HW/SW implementation in test. A successful candidate will work proactively and integrate well across geographically diverse NASA customer and LM Orion organizations.

The candidate will lead HW/SW trade studies for Exploration Mission 2 (Orion’s first crewed spaceflight) for example: flight crew and automation interactions, safe crew return after malfunction (SCRAM) implementation including aborts, environmental control and life support, displays and controls and extensibility to future exploration missions to the moon and on to Mars! They will present the results to the Engineering Review Board, to higher level Orion program boards and to the NASA customer

The selected applicant will be responsible for performing post test data analysis of mission event sequence data. Candidate should be willing to travel to support tests at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The candidate must be able to integrate across multiple disciplines (for example HW, SW, operations, reliability, CPEs, etc) and to autonomously / proactively to seek out the required data to develop all of the above

Basic Qualifications
• BS or higher degree from an accredited college in Engineering, or Computer Science or related discipline
• Systems engineering experience including requirements derivation, verification and test
• Experience with software architecture and or development
• Basic hands on trouble shooting experience
• Test environment experience and in meeting aggressive schedules and delivery milestones
• Experience interacting with external stakeholders including other contractors and customers
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to explain issues at both a technical and non-technical level

Desired skills
• Mission operations experience
• Experience in the design development and integration of embedded software systems
• Experience in the development phase of a spacecraft
• Human spaceflight and/or Orion experience is a plus
• Hardware / Software Integration experience
• Engineering Review Board experience
• System and / or software modeling (SysML or UML)
