Performs Milstar/AEHF Communication Payload Technical Advisory duties at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Responsible for providing technical support and expertise to the 4th Space Operations Squadron for the continued operation, assessment and optimization of communication payloads on five Milstar and three AEHF satellites. The successful candidate will initially be assigned to AEHF but will also cross-train on Milstar with the goal of becoming a subject matter expert on both satellite families. The successful candidate will:
- Provide configuration management of payload telemetry displays and command plans
- Perform subsystem planning, test execution and data analysis to optimize and extend operational capability of the operational payloads
- Perform subsystem trending to proactively identify and resolve adverse subsystem trends
- Analyze operational discrepancy reports and provide technical closure recommendations
- Provide anomaly resolution support to minimize communications outages and recover spacecraft capabilities
- Support fielding of new payload software baselines
- Develop a broad understanding of the MILSATCOM program and provide technical support to areas beyond the payload where applicable

This position typically works day shift Monday through Friday for 40 hours per week. However, the position requires the selected candidate to be on-call 24/7 for anomaly support. Typically this will result in recalls to work a handful of times per year. Off-shift and weekend work may be required for short periods of time

Basic Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a science and technology related degree field such at mathematics, computer science, aerospace/aeronautical/electrical/computer/systems engineering, physics etc or equivalent professional experience. Prior experience with satellite operations, design or test would be beneficial

The selected candidate must have the ability to obtain a DOD Final Secret level clearance. This position requires special access to support the program and requires the selected candidate to be a U.S. Citizen

Desired skills
- Coursework or experience with satellite operations, system testing, mission planning and satellite design concepts
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Software and hardware test and troubleshooting experience
- Ability to troubleshoot issues from a systems engineering perspective
- Ability to work independently as well as in a multi-contractor/government team
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
- Understanding of various software languages such as VBA, HTML, C#, PERL, STOL etc
