System Safety Engineer supporting the Targets and Countermeasures Program (TCP) at the Courtland, AL facility

Candidate will perform system safety hazard analyses on test/operational missile assemblies and ground support equipment in accordance with MIL-STD-882, to include assessing systems/subsystems, identifying safety hazards, and developing safety requirements applicable to system designs and operations. Perform audits of operational areas and report effectiveness of the system safety program. Participate in incident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assist in the identification of causes and corrective actions

Position requires specific experience in the application of DOD 4145.26-M, DOD Contractors Safety Manual for Ammunitions and Explosives. Candidate will serve as the program Ordnance Specialist, requiring technical knowledge in field site ordnance safety and Quantity Distance (QD) requirements, experience drafting and obtaining approvals of Explosive Safety Site Plans, and teaching Ordnance Technicians/Handlers

Candidate must be able to function with minimum supervision, assist the Site Engineering Manager with daily safety operations, and effectively communicate (both verbal and written) with the Site Director, Program and Engineering Management, and other internal and external customers

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in an engineering or related program and minimum 5 years relevant experience

Active Secret security clearance

Working knowledge of DOD 4145.26-M, Department of Defense Contractors Safety Manual for Ammunitions and Explosives

Desired skills
Experience developing system safety hazard analyses on DoD missile systems

Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause/corrective action analyses

Previous experience as an Ordnance Specialist, to include handling ordnance/explosives and conducting field site Explosive Safety Site Plans

Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
