As a Lead System Safety Engineer (SSE) for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) program, the successful candidate will lead and develop a team that provides System Safety engineering technical interface with the Customer; leads all Safety activities for THAAD across all Lockheed Martin THAAD sites and subcontracts; and supports new business development efforts. In the performance of this role, significant travel to Lockheed Martin, customer, and supplier sites will be required

The selected individual will prioritize team efforts and help lead multisite and multidisciplinary Safety and other technical teams. The lead also reviews product systems and associated support equipment/facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes/supports the implementation and verification of safety requirements for the THAAD weapon system

The THAAD lead System Safety role is performed with limited direction and allows for considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and approaches to assignments.

Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective for desired results. The Lead guides the successful completion of major program efforts and may function in a project leadership role. Erroneous decisions or recommendations typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives and/or Program/Business objectives - and can lead to undesired liabilities for Lockheed Martin

The THAAD lead role also includes:
• Leading a team who as part of the Systems Engineering process independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment, and procedures to control or eliminate hazards in products, facilities and operations
• Develops safety deliverables (reports, documents, briefings etc.) as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements
• Performs audits of operational areas and suppliers and reports effectiveness of the system safety program
• Participates in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities or injury to personnel associated with product or program operations; assists in identification of causes and corrective actions
• Evaluates the interrelationship of System Safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development, production, deployment, fielding and retirement requirements to ensure an efficient and cost effective program
• Represents the organization as a prime technical contact on contracts and projects
• Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations
• Develops technical solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity - and assures careful control of scope in assigned program areas

Basic Qualifications
The basic qualifications for the THAAD lead include:
• Excellent communication skills - both oral and written
• Considered an authority in the SSE discipline
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Project and Program Management disciplines
• Demonstrated leadership experience
• Demonstrated ability in developing technical baseline for Safety efforts and identifying safety critical hardware & software
* Demonstrated ability to develop and communicate project vision to leadership, Customer, and Project teams - and lead the project execution as required
• Demonstrated experience in working with DoD programs and DoD technical leads

Desired skills
Knowledge, skills, and previous demonstrated experience in the following areas is desired:
• System Specifications, SOWs, Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL), and Subcontractor Data Requirements List (SDRL) documentation
• Hardware and Software System Safety Engineering (E.g. AMCOM Reg. 385-17; Mil-Std-882C, D, E)
• Ordnance safety, Insensitive Munitions requirements, and Range flight and ground safety for guided missile testing
• Program lifecycles and integration with system engineering processes
• DOORS or other databases from both a use and application design perspective
• Familiarity with production/occupational safety and site/field environmental compliance requirements
• Experience supporting Flight Test Operations and Army Material Release requirements
* Demonstrated ability in developing requirements for Environmental and Hazmat, Ordnance Safety, and Occupational Safety and Health
* Demonstrated ability in identifying Human Factors requirements
• Demonstrated experience in working directly with the Army or MDA Customer Safety Leads, MDA/THAAD Quality & Safety Program Office Leadership, and Customer Program Leadership
• Knowledge of Relational Database designs to support System Safety engineering business process integration in Systems Engineering process and environment
• Current DoD Secret clearance
