Job Details

Participates in research, development and flight acceptance or qualification testing of propulsion system and subsystem testing. Testing often involves the use of volatile and/or hazardous commodities. Primary job focus is to work as a team member in a mechanical and electrical design group to develop engineering solutions and 3D and 2D CAD representations to aid in the testing of aerospace hardware. This includes developing hardware solutions for control, data acquisition/instrumentation systems as well as mechanical fixtures, gas and liquid plumbing systems, and pressurized storage vessels. Also performs system integration, checkout and validation tasks in conjunction with electrical and mechanical technicians. Must be able to interface with program customers to determine test system requirements and perform electrical, instrumentation and mechanical design functions and lead troubleshooting efforts. Plans, directs, reviews and coordinates project documentation to ensure customer, contract, and company requirements are met. Collaboratively refines requirements to ensure that the intent is met even when not explicitly stated in requirements. Prepares specifications, evaluates vendors, and analyzes test data and reports. Works integrally with other mechanical, electrical, software, and test engineers and technician staff and is able to communicate complex technical ideas to an audience with varied technical backgrounds

Basic Qualifications
Mechanical Engineering or Physics Bachelors degree from an accredited college, with coursework and/or experience applicable to both mechanical and electrical (including instrumentation and control systems) systems. Experience relevant to electrical and mechanical systems beyond entry level

Desired skills
Strong organizational and communication skills. Laboratory experience. Programming language course work or experience especially in LabVIEW and C/C++. Experience with various instrumentation technologies for measurement of test parameters such as pressure, temperature, flow rate, acceleration, velocity, displacement, etc. under ambient as well as cryogenic conditions. Experience/Coursework related to control systems. Experience with designing AC and/or DC electrical systems especially ones that comply with hazardous classification electrical codes that utilize intrinsic safety and/or explosion proof equipment. Experience, training or coursework related to mechanical and fluid system design and analysis including ASME piping and vessels code compliance, flow dynamics, stress analysis in structures, and mechanism design. Experience with PTC Creo or SolidWorks 3D modeling software
