Job Details

As a member of the Chemistry Group within the Ground Test Labs, the selected candidate will provide chemistry related support to our quality and research related test efforts. The candidate’s primary tasks will be to test various materials and chemicals used in the fabrication and flight test of aircraft to ensure compliance with applicable company standards and government regulations. The candidate will also support other groups within the lab as needed to perform various types of investigative analysis and tests on new materials and process. Candidate will be expected to learn and operate various pieces of test equipment such as:
• TGA (Thermal Gravimetric Analysis)
• TMA (Thermal Mechanical Analysis)
• DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analysis)
• DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimeter)
• JOAP (Joint Oil Analysis Program) Spectroil M Oil Analysis Spectrometer
• Q-Sun Xenon Test Chamber
• HiAc Ryco Eight Channel Particle Counter
• ISL Automatic Flash Point Tester
• Moisture Meters
• Automatic Titrators
• Various other temperature, humidity and salt fog chambers
• FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer)
• GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry)
The candidate must have good communication and interpersonal skills, engage as a team player and be willing to participate in building strong working and teaming relationships

Basic Qualifications
Candidate must:
• Be a US citizen and be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance
• Be willing and able to support extended and off shift work schedules (1st or 2nd Shift), On Call requirements and share the department work load
• Be willing and able to support outdoors test efforts weekly throughout the year on the flight line, at the fuel storage facility or other locations as needed
• Be willing and able to work in hazardous laboratory environments and with hazardous chemicals/materials (e.g., acids, bases, alkalis, solvents, fuels, aircraft sealants, etc.) and follow all Personal Protective Equipment and safety requirements
• Be willing and able to perform fuels related testing approximately 40% of each work week
• Be willing and able to work in a laboratory environment by themselves or with other team members
• Be able to effectively document and accurately convey technical data within test reports
• Chemical Engineering degree not required but must have a 4 year degree at an accredited institution in a chemistry related field of study

Desired skills
Experience during undergraduate studies or intern/co-op programs with some of the equipment listed in the Job Description is desired
Strong interests in materials, polymer chemistry and analytical chemistry desired
Experience working in a lab environment performing fuels and oils testing
• Have demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills to interface with multifunctional teams
• Have good communication skills (written & oral)
