Job Details

MITRE is seeking statisticians for our US Treasury and Department of Commerce programs. These two agencies affect every US citizen and resident. We help to continuously improve their mission performance and reduce their costs.

Our statistics work for the two Departments spans:

1. Detection (identity theft, emerging threat, tax non-compliance)
2. Forecasting (service demand, resource performance, program value)
3. Process control and change (workflow operations)
4. Sampling and design of experiment (population characterization)

As the agencies Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), we have long-standing relationships across IT, business, and research organizations. We work directly with the governments own source data, and our projects are inherently multidisciplinary. You will grow technically, and you will be continually challenged with interesting problems. Most importantly, you will have both the opportunity and responsibility to make sure your work yields practical effect be it the deployment of a new detection algorithm, an improvement to a business process, or a change to the IT environment.










Qualifications

Every MITRE analyst is expected to:

1. Be fundamentally driven by the goal of improving government performance
2. Eagerly and constantly improve his/her own technical and communications skills over time
3. Demonstrate objectivity, technical excellence, and creativity
4. Communicate technical concepts to a variety of audiences

For our statisticians, we expect at a minimum:

1. Academic background in statistics, math, operations research, computer science, or related technical field (BS plus 3 years of professional experience, MS, or PhD)
2. Demonstrated proficiency with statistics software (R, SAS, Stata, SPSS, JMP, )
3. Proficiency with sampling and design of experiment
4. Proficiency with statistical/ machine learning methods

Preferred:

Clearance - IRS Suitability

Familiarity with SQL, Python, Java, Scala, the Hadoop ecosystem, and Git. MITRE will, of course, aid your skill development over time, but demonstrated proficiency with these tools will aid your candidacy now.

Experience with Treasury or Commerce.
