As a Systems Engineer at MITRE, you will provide systems engineering support to a variety of programs related to law enforcement, national intelligence, and government information systems. You will work on some of the most challenging technical and programmatic issues facing our federal sponsor located in Clarksburg, West Virginia.

Our not-for-profit, public interest charter gives us the freedom to pursue ideas that others might see as too risky. MITRE is built on the principles of objectivity and independence which enables our employees to push the technical and programmatic limits of the state of the practice.

Key Functions

  • Works within a project team to solve complex problems in the areas of process improvement, software development, and image processing.

  • Leverages experience in languages such as C, Java, and Ruby to develop software tools which facilitate the analysis and evaluation of image or printed artifacts from external sources to ensure that the artifacts conform to published specifications.

Communicates technical findings to internal and external stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Broad understanding of software engineering principles including design patterns, the software development lifecycle, and object oriented design and analysis.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with high-level languages such as Java, C/C++, C#, Ruby, or Python.

  • Basic familiarity with image processing.

Preferred Qualifications

Exposure and expertise in the following areas is preferred but not required.

  • Biometrics

  • Calculus and physics (optics)

  • Computer vision
Specific knowledge of the following or similar tools is preferred but not required.

  • Relational databases (e.g., Oracle, Postgres)

  • Scripting languages (e.g., perl, python)
