Duties & Responsibilities The mission of the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University is to transform human healthcare and the environment by emulating the way nature builds. Developed as an alliance between Harvard and other premier academic and clinical partner institutions, Institute faculty and staff collaborate in high-risk, fundamental research and science-driven technology development. A major focus of the Institute is to translate the technologies developed by its faculty and staff into commercial products and therapies through collaborations with clinical investigators and establishment of corporate alliances. For more information, visit: Reporting to the Lead Senior Staff Engineer in Device Integration & Manufacturability, the Staff Electrical Engineer assists and enables Wyss Institute faculty and researchers in their research and development efforts in the field of biologically inspired engineering. Contributes to the design, fabrication, assembly, testing, control and optimization of various biologically-inspired electrical systems and components within the Institute’s Enabling Technology Platforms. Conducts laboratory research and participates in the efforts of students and fellows in the technical translation area. Responsible for the innovation, evolution, and maintenance of a broad set of electrical engineering systems to facilitate the Institute’s mission, research, and product development efforts. Participates in group design projects as well as initiates and executes individual design efforts. Responsible for the setup and maintenance of core electrical engineering capabilities within the Institute. Participates in writing research proposals, reports, patent applications, presentations and publications, providing critical data, figures or information for grant and patent submissions. Interacts regularly with affiliated Institute faculty.

Basic Qualifications B.S. in electrical engineering or related field, with 5 or more years of experience in research and/or product development.

Additional Qualifications Masters preferred. Must have experience in analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design, circuit analysis, PCB design, benchtop prototyping, and troubleshooting. Must be familiar with electronic test and measurement techniques and equipment. Must be able to work with researchers to generate and to document systems requirements. Must have experience with biosensors and medical devices. Firmware development experience with popular microcontroller platforms such as ARM, PIC, and AVR is required. Experience making user-friendly systems with Arduino, Python, and MATLAB is preferred. Cross-functional skills such as software development or mechanical engineering are also preferred. Prior experience designing wearable devices or precision instrumentation is preferred. Candidate should be familiar with industry standards for safety and EMC. Education may count toward experience.
