Job Description

We are searching for a Senior Manager of Software Development who is well versed and comfortable leading the full development cycle, from requirements identification all the way to customer acceptance and deployment in an Agile/SCRUM environment.

As Senior Manager of Software Development, you will coordinate the product development activities of offshore software engineering, product marketing and software testing teams as they develop applications for one or more vertical segments. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, direction and vision to offshore teams in the development and delivery of software applications for Thermo Fisher’s line of Life Science Mass Spectrometers
  • Work closely with the offshore leadership teams
  • Coordinate the hiring, coaching and training for the offshore teams
  • Act as a liaison between the onshore/offshore product development teams
  • Ensure execution of Agile/SCRUM processes
  • Working with the software test group and applications personnel, deliver complete and high quality software products to customers; Windows-based and cloud-based applications, according to schedules and specifications.
  • Work in cross functional teams to help set the direction of the next generation application software
  • Communicate effectively with marketing and customers to troubleshoot problems
  • Mentor and provide direct support to junior engineers

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience developing commercial software required
  • 3 years managing a software development group
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computational Chemistry, or Computational Biology
  • Strong experience with offshore product development teams
  • Experience developing software with C# and .NET
  • Formal training in software engineering (covering subjects such as architectural design, OOP, software quality engineering, requirements analysis, etc.) required
  • Experience building software systems for data management, designing and implementing high quality solutions is expected
  • Strong organizational skills to work with cross-functional teams in defining project requirements is expected
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills are essential


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of chromatographic and spectroscopic data processing methods and software applications development for these is preferred but not required
  • Balanced skill set in terms of front and back end technologies and languages (.NET, HTLM5m CSS3, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery)
  • Exposure to building web/cloud applications; IoT domains, commercial cloud platform (AWS, Azure, Google)
  • Master’s degree is desirable
