Sr\. Manager, R&D Electrical Engineering will be responsible for the management of Electrical and Optical Engineers within the R&D Hardware Engineering team, including strategic planning and budgeting for the function, performance management, skill set development, and allocation of resources to meet dynamic business needs for new product development and sustaining engineering in the fields of In Vitro Diagnostics and Lab Automation\. Provide technical leadership to develop best in class IVD instrumented systems\. Apply the latest technology and industry trends to improve performance in key focus areas\. Provide guidance to and / or lead teams that are responsible for the design and development of electrical and electronic designs required for instrumented growth micro, molecular, cytology, or immuno diagnostic systems\.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** **:**
+ Functional Management of the Electrical Engineering Staff of the Diagnostic Systems business unit\.
+ Defines the engineering capabilities required to meet new product development and sustaining objectives\.
+ Manages the organizational structure of the Electro\-Optical group\.
+ Hires associates as needed to meet business needs\.
+ Assesses and manages performance and development of the associates within the group\.
+ Drives technical and process excellence
+ Cultivates lean development practices that are fully compliant with applicable regulations for a broad array of products from industrial systems to class 3 IVDs\. Align processes with the BD Global Product Development System phase gate system\. Drive systems based approach to design and architectural challenges\.
+ Improves development processes to accelerate concept development and prototyping with the latest simulation and analytical tools\.
+ Fosters technical excellence through the application of statistical methods \(Design for Six Sigma\) to produce robust design
+ Increases design efficiency to lower development lead time and cost
+ Drives cross project standardization and re\-use for electrical designs/components\.
+ Drives utilization of off\-the\-shelf, modular components to reduce the development cycle and improve time to market
+ Applies electrical engineering expertise in a leadership role\.
+ Leads or participates in design reviews\. Thoroughly assesses the ability of proposed designs to meet requirements, including manufacturability and serviceability\.
+ Plans and leads technical development activities from concept through successful commercialization within established schedules, budgets, and product cost targets\.
+ Drives strategy for electronics architecture across the breadth of the instrumented product line, from small benchtop standalone devices to full lab automation with broad connectivity\.
+ Reduces exposure to risk through long life cycle and obsolescence management
+ Provides technology assessment of competitive and targeted systems\.
+ Provides a technical interface to key opinion leaders and internal and external customers\.
+ Collaborates with other technical disciplines and across business functions to develop and meet project objectives\.
+ Forms effective working relationships with cross functional leaders and teams to deliver complete product solutions to the market\. Engage with Marketing, Field Service, Quality, Regulatory, Planning and Procurement and Manufacturing groups to understand requirements of stakeholders and customers\.
+ Interacts closely with software, systems, mechanical, and electrical engineering functions to develop comprehensive solutions to design problems\.
+ Provides high level technical assessments and communications to business leadership\.
+ Guides EE team members to evaluate and apply engineering principles to fulfill project objectives\. Participate in project planning and drive execution to meet project timelines and deliverables\.
+ Manages and / or leads the design effort of major electrical/electro\-optical subsystems\.
+ Participates in project planning and drive execution to meet project timelines and deliverables\. Directly apply expert knowledge in electronics and electro\-optics to execute project assignments\.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
+ BS Electrical Engineering\. MS Electrical Engineering preferred\.
+ Minimum eight years of experience in a product development engineering environment
+ Direct experience leading engineering project teams or managing a functional group of Electrical Engineers
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
+ Talent management skills including coaching and mentoring, dealing with conflict\. Manage performance and drive achievement\.
+ Recognize and deals effectively with low performance\. Ability to recruit, hire, and maintain high caliber staff\.
