Job Description:

3M is seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineering Systems Engineer for the Corporate Research SEMS Laboratory located in Maplewood, Minnesota. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter. Here, you go.

Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Sr. Electrical Engineering Systems Engineer will primarily be responsible for Systems Technology and Product Development for a great variety of electro-mechanical products and systems.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

+ Developing and enhancing electronic systems through systems architecture, requirements and interfaces.

+ Customer interfacing to discover stakeholder requirements and deliver solutions.

+ Engaging with the broader 3M community to create new electronic systems solutions.

+ Developing and validating systems that meet requirements, reduce cost, improve performance, and are delivered on time and budget.

+ Performing component and sub-system design analysis and trade-off studies considering alternatives, size, power, performance and cost.

+ Interacting with vendors and executing contracted agreements supporting development of technology or products.

+ Identifying and resolving issues throughout the development life cycle.

+ Planning and coordinating testing to ensure products meet requirements.

+ Manage projects to meet performance, schedule and cost goals.

+ Effectively collaborating and networking with numerous internal and external organizations including 3M Corporate Research Laboratories (CRL), universities, government and national laboratories and industry organizations.

+ Engaging current and prospective customers to identify unmet needs and validate progress against new product development objectives.

+ Demonstrating and communicating the technology/product value relative to market opportunities to a broad range of audiences via clear written and verbal communications.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university

+ Minimum of five (5) years combined product development and/or technology commercialization experience

+ Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in multidisciplinary system design

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or Computer Engineering from an accredited university

+ Experience in developing intellectual property

+ Experience with one or more of the following:

+ sensors, data acquisition, wireless sensor networks, communications, electro-mechanical systems, and/or embedded systems, electronic design, manufacturing, and packaging, system modeling and analysis, system verification and validation, contract execution

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills

+ Ability to independently determine and develop original technical approaches

+ Excellent analytical skills; must have the ability to analyze data using appropriate data analysis tools

+ Strong time management skills; ability to work through issues and prioritize multiple time demands.

+ Self-motivated and proactive, with strong hands-on work ethics, can-do attitude, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills

+ Demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities

+ Ability to communicate well with cross-functional team members in a matrixed environment, be able to efficiently collaborate with team members to achieve project goals, and contribute positively to the engineering community environment

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic and international
