The Veeco-CNT business unit is a leading maker of Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) Systems and is currently seeking an individual to engage in electrical engineering activities for the company.  As a member of the Engineering group, you'll be part of a team that is responsible for the control system architecture and application on all of the Company’s ALD systems.  A high level of proficiency with electrical design and documentation is required.   A systems engineering background is a plus, along with the ability to understand electromechanical aspects of hardware and software, and their integration into design.   Previous experience using LabVIEW for control, automation, and data acquisition is preferred.  The position is located in our Waltham, MA office.




The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to work with Microchip microcontrollers and System on a Chip (SoC) or System on a Module (SoM)
  • Ability to support and maintain legacy PIC C code
  • Ability to use National Instruments LabVIEW, Real-Time, and FPGA programming environments for the creation of embedded control systems
  • Manage tool certification: CE, SEMI S2, CSA, etc.
  • Interface with small scientific team for design input, testing and feedback
  • Implementing product development plans, managing ECOs and ECR documentation
  • Working with contract manufacturers, interfacing with manufacturing engineers and technicians on the assembly floor, willingness to drive to contract manufacturer locations.
  • Working with a small engineering team, comfortable wearing multiple hats spanning across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Interacting with customers either in person or through email/phone
  • Working with hand tools, in a lab environment



Requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a BA/BS degree in Engineering or related field; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or equivalent experience.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with regulatory testing of products and interfacing with outside compliance test houses
  • Experience with electrical design software such as Orcad or Altium
  • Ability to perform rework and repairs to PCB assemblies containing both SMT and Through-Hole technologies
  • Experience with National Instruments LabVIEW including LabVIEW-RT and LabVIEW FPGA, Certified LabVIEW Developer certification preferred
  • Experience with source code control (SCC), specifically SubVersion
  • Experience with Atlassian, JIRA, and Confluence for bug, issue, and project tracking and documentation
  • Knowledge in instrumentation and control, and industrial automation is strongly preferred
  • Strong experience in troubleshooting and debugging electrical systems
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills a plus
  • Must have excellent written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to get along with others and function as a team player as well as work effectively alone
