MITREs Center for Advanced Aviation System (CAASD) is currently seeking a software engineer who will support the FAA by performing software engineering related to flight procedure development while using a broad spectrum of tools and technologies to meet both internal analysis and external client requirements. Expect a team environment with self-motivated, highly trained professionals.


Key Functions include: 

  • Assist in developing, prototyping, and implementing FAA design criteria in software

  • Help with developing algorithms for enhanced flight procedure design

  • Work with team in defining requirements for complex and advanced flight procedure design and development tools that apply flight procedure criteria


Key Skills and Experience:

  • Java application development including Java Swing

  • Source Code Management (SCM) technologies such as GIT and SVN

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills

  • Software application testing and associated technologies and frameworks (e.g., JUnit)

  • Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) such as Eclipse or IntelliJ

  • Build and project management technologies (e.g., Apache MavenTM

  • Optional background in the field of aviation: pilot, air force, air traffic control experience, aviation systems, etc.


Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or similar field.
