Description: GTRI's Information and Communications Laboratory (ICL) in Atlanta, GA, is seeking a Software Developer to join its mission of conducting applied research for analysis, design, development, test, and evaluation of prototype systems. Activities are focused on the analysis and development of complete systems including hardware-in-the-loop emulation, system modeling and simulation, deployable prototype/first generation systems, lab test sets, and field tests instrumentation.

Candidates with a background in development and delivery of working prototypes and final products are prefered. Candidates must also enjoy working with open source software, developing in a team environment, and interacting and controlling cutting edge hardware. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with an advanced degree preferred.

This opportunity is within the Information and Communication Lab ( ICL ). ICL conducts research that solves complex problems in areas of defense system prototypes, electronic warfare, test systems, electromagnetic propagation, computer science, information technology, communications, networking, and socio-technical systems.

The position is based in Atlanta, GA, and will include approximately 10% travel.  The selection process will include passing a pre-employment background screening.


  • Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen who can possess (or currently possesses) at least a DOD SECRET security clearance
  • 1+ years of computer programming experience.
  • Strong Windows and Linux software development and automated build environments experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with C# and Python
  • Demonstrated ability with Windows/Unix/Linux development tools, and experience with the software development lifecycle
  • Ability to work well individually or in a group setting
  • Ability to effectively present technical information

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  •  A BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics or an appropriate field

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree Electrical Engineering, Physics or an appropriate field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,


  • Network analysis tools (Wireshark). 
  • Linux kernel development.
