Lockheed Martin is in search of an up-and-coming Structures Test / Fixture Design Engineer to join our Structures and Environments test labs at our Sand Lake Road campus in sunny Orlando, FL.

The primary job responsibility is setup and execution of structural tests on aerospace-grade prototype and production parts and assemblies in support of internal customers for research and development projects and contracted programs. Tool/fixture designs will be concepted and matured using solid modeling, resulting in fabrication drawings which will be executed by the in-lab fabrication team. The engineer will provide design intent guidance through the fabrication process, and assist a team of technicians through the assembly build-up and prepare hardware for testing per customer requirements. The applicant should have a strong mechanical stress analysis background with knowledge in machining, welding, and manufacturing processes. The position reports to the area supervisor of the Design Group within the Structural and Environmental Labs Manager as part of the Mechanical Engineering Laboratories

The engineer will develop a mastery of operation and knowledge of the full capabilities of each item of the test equipment, as well as understanding the and instrumentation and data recording used in the performance of all tests.

The engineer will have an opportunity to perform test planning and document reviews. The engineer will have the opportunity to manage daily work activities through our facilities, executing "hands on" testing daily to meet test schedules, and interfacing with Program Engineers to develop robust test programs and report results

Where can you get to from Orlando? Orlando is about an hour's drive from Cocoa Beach and the "space coast" to include NASA and the Kennedy Space Center. Tampa is about 1.5 hours from Orlando. West Palm Beach is about 2.5 hours to the south and Jacksonville is about 2 hours to the northeast. Atlanta, GA is 6 hours to the northwest

Basic Qualifications
•Must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret Clearance
•Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university (preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or closely related technical field)
•Minimum of 6 years of professional experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 4 years of professional experience with a Masters Degree
•Experience with tooling/fixturing design.
•3D solid modeling required
•Proficient in computing within a Windows-based MS Office-suite centered environment for communication, scheduling, data processing, and basic data transfer
•Demonstrated sound writing and verbal communication skills in a teaming environment
•Capable of obtaining certifications to operate a pallet stacker and overhead hoist/cranes
•Capable of obtaining an ATF Explosives Possessors License
•Demonstrated interest and experience in hands-on testing / evaluation of hardware
•Ability to learn and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
•Must be comfortable in giving direction to technicians and other staff members
•Must have flexibility in personal schedule for opportunities to work overtime outside of standard lab hours
•Strong verbal & written communications skills
•Strong organizational skills

Desired skills
•An MS level technical degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or closely related technical field may be desirable.
•Familiarity with a test lab environment.
•Experience in conducting structural load tests.
•General knowledge of strain gage installation and applications
•CREO/Windchill Experience
•Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
•Current DoD Secret clearance
•Experience as a hardware test engineer in the aerospace industry in an environmental test laboratory or equivalent would be a plus
•Current DoD secret clearance is desired
