Job Details

The Department of Electrical Engineering invites applicants for a position as a senior researcher at our Centre for Electric Energy and Power.

The position is in the research group ‘Energy System Operation and Management’ where we do research in the control, operation and automation in the fields of active distribution networks and integrated energy systems and their associated infrastructures.

We are working with modelling and development of simulation tools, development of control concepts and controllers and ICT systems to support the operation and control. The work is theoretical as well as experimental. We have access to world leading lab facilities in PowerlabDK and field tests/living labs in Energylab Nordhavn and on Bornholm. The research group has a large portfolio of national and international projects and activities.

Responsibilities and tasks

You will work within the fields of active distribution networks and integrated energy systems. The work will include development of methods and technologies for enabling distribution grids with high penetration of distributed energy resources to be optimally operated by utilizing the potential flexibility of DER components primarily demand response. The research in integrated energy systems will encompass modelling of the participating subsystems and their interaction at control and operational timescales and develop control strategies to optimize utilization of available renewable energy and minimize the overall energy cost for the combined system.

You will be part of a cross-disciplinary team and you will work with main stakeholders, industrial partners, universities and research institutions in national and international projects.

You will have the responsibility to develop the areas of design and operation of active distribution networks and control of integrated energy systems. You will contribute to the development of methods and tools for design of the systems and participate in the implementation and testing in our experimental facilities. You will together with the rest of the research develop new projects with Danish and international partners. You are expected to contribute to the development of the experimental and simulation platforms. You will also be supervising PhD-students and MSc/BSc-students, and to a limited degree, you will contribute to other educational activities.


Candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent as well as academic experience equivalent to Researcher/Assistant Professor or PostDoc. Candidates are expected to have strong background in several of the following areas:


  • Distribution grid operation, control and planning
  • Power system control and optimization
  • Modeling and simulation of distribution grids, multi-energy systems, demand response and/or DER technologies such as EVs and heat pumps
  • Experimental work and data analysis

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
