Job Details

1. Plans sequence of operations and works from blueprints, specifications, work folders, general instruction from supervisors or engineers and any other pertinent data, together with parts and/or assemblies. Studies information in order to determine the most feasible method of assembly, disassembly and repair of delicate, high precision electro-mechanical, electrical, fluid, gaseous and mechanical assemblies and systems. This includes the assembly of test fixtures required for structural test operations and aerospace ground equipment. Makes layouts of parts, assemblies, and/or systems

2. Assembles and installs precision mechanical, hydro-mechanical, electrical and electro-mechanical parts that may require them to make adjustments, file, drill, ream, tap, shim, scrape, lap, hone, and otherwise progressively hand file and assemble units to unusually critical tolerances. Cleans and maintains cleanliness of hardware during critical build up of components, assemblies, and/or systems. Performs non-metal applications such as potting, bonding, and foaming required in the final assembly operations. This would include but not be limited to the close out of areas left uncovered to facilitate assembly operations

3. Works with design and test engineers in the assembly, installation, and test of electrical and mechanical assemblies. Collaborates with the engineer to resolve any difficulties encountered and offers suggestions as to design changes which will improve the operation of the unit/system or will facilitate future assembly or servicing

4. Installs and tests electrical/electronic components, instrumentation, harnesses, assemblies and parts in Launch Vehicles by interpreting blueprints and diagrams. Performs mate and demate of electrical connectors as required for the installation and testing of the missile systems

5. Installs and connects hydraulic, pneumatic, and propulsion system components such as thrust chambers, power packs, tubing systems on launch vehicles, valves, tanks, and pumps. Fill reservoirs, assemblies, and lines. Purge systems following established procedures. Rework faulty installations by removing or tightening lines, hoses, valves and fittings

6. Performs complex electrical, mechanical, hydrostatic, hydraulic, structural, and gaseous tests on assemblies and/or systems to assure functional operation in compliance with specifications. Makes precise and exacting adjustments where necessary to bring parts, assemblies and/or systems within operating specifications. Uses a variety of high precision instruments, electrical and mechanical test equipment to check out the operation of the parts, assemblies and systems. Uses complex consoles to check out the electrical systems of launch vehicles

Basic Qualifications
Applicant must be able to read and understand the use of complicated engineering drawings (blueprints) and specifications, advanced shop mathematics and the use of a variety of tools such as jigs and fixtures and testing and checking equipment. Must be capable of using and reading precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, scales, gages, etc.). Applicant must be able to work from ladders and platforms for extended periods of time and in awkward positions. Requires moderate physical effort in assembling light and medium weight parts. Basic knowledge of hand tools. Must be able to work alone or in a team environment. Must be willing to work weekends, evenings or extended hours as required. Must have basic computer skills (use of Intranet). Must be able to work in high places and during adverse weather conditions. Must be able to demonstrate mechanical aptitude. Must be able to work any shift.

This position is located in a facility that requires special access

Desired skills
A & P License and/or 5 years of experience in Related Manufacturing and/or Fabrication preferably in Aerospace. Work in a Structural, Mechanical or Aerospace related Test Lab desired. Certified Welding for aluminum and Steel a plus. This job is dynamic and fast paced and physically demanding. Ability to multitask is required
