Senior/Principal Electrical engineer with FPGA and Firmware experience. Will write FPGA code to control hardware in real time and support complex experimentation. Will need hardware, software, and FPGA debugging skills to diagnose and fix system level issues. Will need to simulate FPGA code to verify functionality.

Education:

Senior Research Engineer / Senior Research Technologist / Principal Research Engineer / Principal Research Technologist

In addition to the years-in reank requirement, this rank requires one (1) of the following:

  • A Master’s degree and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree and four (4) years' relevant full-time experience. For candidates holding the Doctoral degree, the last two (2) years of employment prior to employment at Georgia Tech will be considered if adequately documented, and the four-year time in grade requirement be reduced to two (2) years for candidates so qualified.

Experience:

Must have hands on experience programming Xilinx or Altera FPGAs using VHDL or Verilog. Must have experience with writing C code. Must be able to debug digital hardware. Familiarity with writing code for embedded processors a plus, Familiarity with microprocessor bus interfaces such as serial, I2C, SPI a plus. Exposure to Python, Ruby or Java programming a plus. Exposure to single board computers such as Raspberry PI, Arduino, or others a plus. Will need good communication skills to present designs and acquired data to engineers and managers.

Other: Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens, with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance. Candidate will be subject to a full background investigation by the US Government as required by NISPOM, ICD 704 processes, DoD Manual 5205.07, Volume 2, and any additional Government Policy or Directives as determined by the Cognizant Security Agency. Candidates may be required to take a polygraph test.
