Join MITREs Electronic System Development team implementing and analyzing state of the art secure electronics across a number of application areas including advanced sensor, communication, and navigation systems. Candidates will lead design teams to architect and implement solutions for a wide range of challenging problems in embedded security. Other highlights include:

Key Functions:

This position provides an exciting opportunity to lead the design, implementation and analysis of state of the art, secure electronic systems. Opportunities include:

  • Security evaluation and threat assessments of embedded systems

  • Real-time embedded software development leveraging homogeneous and heterogeneous GPP, DSP, and GPU architectures

  • Development of internal research proposals

  • Consulting and service across a number of sponsors / challenges

  • Prototyping solutions to real -world problem

We are interested in highly motivated candidates with a wide variety of skills, insatiable curiosity, enthusiasm, and the ability to dig deep on challenging technical problems. Required qualifications include: BS (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science and 3+ years of experience

  • Strong understanding of embedded systems / software

  • Understanding of digital hardware systems and/or signal processing concepts

  • Understanding of common cryptographic algorithms (e.g. AES, 3DES, RSA, ECC, etc.) and protocols (e.g. TLS, Diffie-Hellman key exchange, etc.)

  • Familiarity with implementation security (e.g. side-channel and/or fault induction attacks/countermeasures)

Preferred Qualifications:

One or more of the following skills are desirable: 

  • Task or project leadership experience

  • Operating systems & kernel internals knowledge

  • Scientific/numerical computing experience with Python or MATLAB

  • Mobile development experience (Android or iOS)

  • Embedded and/or hardware security knowledge (e.g. familiarity with TPMs, secure boot, ARM TrustZone, etc.)

  • Understanding of common weaknesses and modern attacks on cryptographic algorithms and protocols

  • Familiarity with compiler internals, debuggers, disassemblers, and other low level development tools

  • Understanding of and/or experience with 

    • Reverse engineering 

    • Invasive/semi-invasive attacks

    • Fault Injection

    • Hardware Trojans

    • Physically Uncloneable Functions (PUFs)

    • Physical layer identification/device fingerprinting

    • Tamper resistance 
  • A graduate degree (MS or PhD)

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in one of the following disciplines, Electrical, Computer or Systems Engineering and 3 years related experience.
