Job Details

Areté Associates, an employee-owned company, is a growing research and development firm recognized for contributing to national security objectives by supplying innovative solutions to challenging technical problems faced by the United States. Our Longmont, Colorado office has an immediate opening for a Senior Electrical Engineer reporting to the Manager, Electrical Engineer This is a exempt non-supervisory full-time position.

Researches, designs, develops, and tests a variety of electronic equipment and systems, including radar and radiation detection equipment, power electronics; communications equipment and systems; circuitry components and integrated circuits; analog and digital computers, processors, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA) and associated firmware; and control and test equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and implement high speed electro-optic systems including transimpedance amplifiers, data acquisition systems, FPGAs, processors, and processing systems

  • Implement high current pulse circuits, high speed high voltage circuits, and closed loop control circuits for lasers and optical systems

  • Model, design, develop and test high speed, low noise transimpedance amplifiers for optical sensors such as APDs, PMTs, and photodiodes

  • Develop functional requirements and specifications for electronic subsystems to support electro-optic systems such as LIDARS, LASERS, etc.

  • Detailed design of circuit card and system electronics including schematics, component selection, layout requirements, and thermal management strategies for deployment in difficult environmental conditions

  • Hands on test, troubleshooting, and system integration of circuit cards and electronic systems

  • Prepare and present technical briefings directly to internal and external customers

  • Write and support new and existing technical and cost proposals

  • Support system design and implementation from initial concept through production

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years Electrical Engineering experience with BS/BA in Computer/Electronics Engineering.10 years preferred

  • Hands on experience with at least one circuit card design software package, and a demonstrated track record of complex circuit card design and implementation.Experience with Altium Designer preferred

  • Record of accomplishment with systems using low-level sensors and sensitive high-speed signals.Experience with electro optic systems preferred

  • Practical experience with simulation tools as well as hardware testing and integration from initial concept through production

  • Software programming skills in Labview, Matlab, Python, or C/C++, is preferred

  • Strong communication skills including written, verbal, and formal presentation capabilities.Ability to produce professional documentation and presentations with Microsoft Office products

  • System architecture design experience including power distribution, data acquisition and processing strategies, control loops, analog design, signal integrity, and cable development

  • Ability to obtain TS security clearance. Current security clearance preferred
