Job Description





The Senior Electrical Engineer I supports the Engineering & Design Division in achieving Energy Efficiency department's goals of improving energy efficiency and stimulating new energy technologies in New York State. The Engineering and Design division has responsibilities for project design reviews, project energy saving calculations reviews; assist in troubleshooting projects in construction, as well as preparation of contract documents, drawings and specifications for in house design of energy conservation projects. The Senior Electrical Engineer I will work on design and calculation reviews for work prepared by outside consultants, as well as design of projects developed internally. The Electrical Engineer will work with external customers to develop multiple end use projects incorporating energy efficiency measures to reduce the customers’ energy consumption, and is responsible for the development and implementation of cost effective direct-install projects that cover all end-uses. Using engineering and good business sense, the incumbent is responsible to support bringing such projects from inception through the design and engineering phases, to construction, commissioning and true up. The Senior Electrical Engineer I also provides expert level technical support for in house project managers for project technical issues, and may be assigned to lead or support in house technical committees; and participate in external organization committees.



+ Develop designs, specifications and engineered solutions for various electrical equipment and systems’ problems or improvements.


+ Perform inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification and trouble shooting, or improvements


+ Provide direction to and review of the electrical design and drafting personnel in the development of the project drawings.


+ Review work produced by other engineers, including the designs, specifications and energy savings calculations. Return clear comments and verify compliance


+ Mentor and provide guidance for junior engineers.


+ Independently schedule and prioritize requests to ensure deadlines are met.


+ Coordinate work with other disciplines and departments for the successful development and execution of the project.


+ Perform inspections and evaluations on vendor products to ensure engineering requirements and Authority needs are satisfied.







Required Skills






+ Extensive experience and knowledge of commercial and industrial facilities and their various electrical systems and components.


+ Knowledge of and a working familiarity with current codes, standards, and regulations required.


+ Strong oral and written communication skills.


+ Effective coaching ability for junior engineers.


+ Demonstrated performance as a leader on multi-discipline team projects.


+ Produce clear, concise, complete and articulate reports which explain recommendations.


+ Develop complete, accurate and detailed modification packages, specifications, drawings and other engineered construction documents.


+ Excellent interpersonal skills.


+ Good presentation skills.








Required Experience






+ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.


+ New York State Professional Engineer license required.


+ AEE Certified Energy Manager certification preferred.


+ A minimum of ten years of applicable experience required.
