**Job Summary** General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.



GA’s Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Group focuses on the military and commercial applications of advanced electromagnetic technologies, including power generation and distribution, magnetic levitation, and systems design and engineering. The EMS Group supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy and the Department of Transportation.



We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer located in Huntsville, AL.



**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**



+ Responsible for the design, analysis, and testing of advanced power electronic systems for both military and commercial applications.

+ Responsible for designing, testing, supporting, and troubleshooting components of low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems operating up to several megawatts. Examples of such systems include rectifiers, inverters, and DC-DC converters. Similar responsibilities for the sensors and control systems required for such systems.

+ Use prior experience and knowledge of engineering principles and procedures to make independent technical decisions on important programs.

+ Will lead and direct small technical teams (engineers, designers and technicians) in solving complex problems.

+ Responsible for writing requirements, specifications, and design reports; preparing drawings for fabrication and procurement; creating, executing, and documenting test plans; and presenting designs and troubleshooting analyses for technical review.

+ Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

+ Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

**Job Qualifications**



+ Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

+ Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.

+ Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals, and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.

+ Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.

+ Able to work extended hours as required.

+ Experience with the following:

+ Mastery of power conversion topologies and understanding of operating characteristics of power electronic components such as IGBTs, power MOSFETs, and SCRs

+ Strong understanding of control systems

+ Experience designing analog and digital circuits

+ Understanding of electric machine theory, especially including induction and synchronous machines

+ Knowledge of energy storage systems

+ Experience with FMECA / fault trees is a plus

+ Leading small teams of engineers and technicians
