General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) is a supplier of advanced electromagnetic systems, related power equipment and other high technology products for a variety of government and commercial applications. These include products such as the design and fabrication of linear motors, superconducting and conventional rotating motors, power inverters, high-energy capacitors, radiation monitoring systems, high-voltage direct current power distribution systems, and numerous other products.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Electronic and Power Systems group located in Huntsville, AL.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** :
+ Determines technical objectives for solution(s) to advanced technical engineering problems.
+ Participate in the review and finalization of detailed subsystem performance requirements, interface control documents, test requirements, integration planning, etc.
+ Perform design trade studies and analysis to determine the best approach to meet competing demands of performance, cost, and schedule.
+ Responsible for working on improvements and enhancements to existing designs, troubleshooting hardware, failure analysis, test procedure creation, and electronics testing.
+ Develop and design solutions for complex systems or subsystems as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, with specific focus on digital and analog design.
+ Document test and verification activities at the electrical system and/or subsystem level.
+ Conduct reviews and/or provide significant technical analysis and commentary on the system and engineering specification, schematic, and/or verification phases of development.
+ Consult with other engineers and program teams charged with sustaining engineering activities in order to ensure continuity of assembly/testing activities or customer commitments
+ Represents the organization as a prime technical contact within and engineering team for assigned project(s)/program(s).
+ May function in an advisory or leadership role for a project/program and provide direction and guidance to less experienced professional staff or team of professional staff.
+ Formulates plans and guides the development and implementation of engineering solution(s) including deployment, resource requirements, testing, documentation, integration and compliance and safety.
+ Plans and coordinates the maintenance of engineering solutions including, documentation, reporting, publishing, and making technical and other presentations to ensure viability of the solution(s) in an evolving environment.
+ Plans for future applications of solutions based on new developments in engineering technology.
+ Participates in or may lead the development of new or expansion of existing business opportunities.
+ Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
+ Performs other duties as assigned or required.
+ Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.
+ Demonstrates strong knowledge and experience in designing complex mixed signal analog and digital electronic systems
+ Demonstrated ability to create detailed hardware and functional specifications is required.
+ Schematic and/or PCB layout design experience is desired.
+ FPGA/CPLD firmware design experience is required.
+ Experience in electro-optical and/or electro-mechanical systems is desired.
+ Ability to design for harsh/space environments (radiation) desired.
+ Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
+ Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals; the capability of representing the organization as a prime technical contact; and, the ability to provide leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
+ Must be customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
