East Bay Municipal Utility District’s (EBMUD’s) Wastewater Treatment Division, part of the Wastewater Department, is seeking a highly qualified individual with exceptional technical, interpersonal, and communication skills. The current opening is a new position at EBMUD that will supervise the recently created Wastewater Process Control System Management Section. The position reports to the Manager of the Wastewater Treatment Division.  Responsibilities include overall management and optimization of the wastewater control systems used in the day to day operation of EBMUD’s wastewater facilities, including its main wastewater treatment plant, three wet weather treatment facilities, three recycled water facilities, 15 pump stations, and level monitor stations on the interceptor system. The Wastewater Department’s instrumentation and control systems primarily consist of a DCS, PLCs, SCADA, Human Machine Interface, Operator Interface Terminals, and wireless telemetry systems.

This position will be responsible for supervising the work of up to three engineers, one senior programmer analyst, and other technical positions that support the Wastewater Department instrumentation and control systems. The team in the Wastewater Process Control System Management Section will perform difficult and complex engineering work related to the start-up, troubleshooting, and operation of a large municipal water and wastewater treatment and distribution utility system. The team works integrally with the operations and maintenance staff to ensure the seamless operation and optimization of EBMUD’s wastewater control systems.

The salary range is $10,972* per month increasing to $11,521*, $12,097*, and $12,702* after 6, 18, and, 30 months, respectively. *Anticipated salary increase in late April

  1.  A bachelor’s degree in an electrical engineering curriculum which is accredited by ABET or a California Engineer-In-Training Certificate, and
  2. A minimum of four years of engineering experience comparable to or higher than EBMUD’s  Associate Control System or Electrical Engineer class (equivalent to eight years of professional engineering experience, subsequent to obtaining the engineering degree); and
  3. Registration as a Control System or Electrical Professional Engineer in the State of California.

An advanced degree in an accredited engineering curriculum may be substituted for one year of the required experience. 

A valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record are also required. Candidates must be willing to work overtime as needed. Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the classification including office and field duties.
