Description: The CIPHER Lab at GTRI is seeking a systems engineer/computer scientist with experience in DoD operational requirements and research programs. This position involves direction and management of technical and research projects as well as sponsor engagement. The position also involves working with cutting edge technologies, such as machine learning methods, and creating innovative solutions to complex problems. Familiarity with the NIST Risk Management Framework is a plus.

Senior Research Scientist

In addition to the years-in-rank requirement, this rank requires one (1) of the following:

  • A Master’s degree and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree and four (4) years' relevant full-time experience. For candidates holding the Doctoral degree, the last two (2) years of employment prior to employment at Georgia Tech will be considered if adequately documented, and the four-year time in grade requirement be reduced to two (2) years for candidates so qualified.

Principal Research Scientist   

In addition to the years-in-rank requirement, this rank requires either:

  • A Master's degree and eleven (11) years' relevant full-time experience; or
  • A Doctoral degree and seven (7) years' relevant full-time experience.

Other Responsibilities and work will include:

  • Lead efforts and work with GTRI security practitioners to develop novel solutions for security operations
  • Lead sponsor engagement and contribute to research proposals
  • Analyze both operational and technical requirements for complex systems
  • Work with GTRI researchers in novel machine and deep learning techniques
  • Devise security approaches for cyber-physical systems, including hardware roots of trust
  • Support software and cloud security development
  • Assist in developing strategy CIPHER Lab research portfolio.


  • US Citizenship, no foreign ties AND/OR the ability to get a security clearance
  • Graduate degree in engineering or related area
