The Effects and Mission Support department specializes in developing operational systems to support critical outcomes across military, law enforcement, intelligence, and civilian agencies. We are seeking driven cybersecurity researchers in embedded systems, cyber-physical systems, mobile platforms, and the Internet of things. Successful applicants will have demonstrated ability to analyze and create low-level implementation artifacts while developing sound high-level theories of system impact. Mature candidates can frame results in context of mission objectives, plausible adversarial models, and required security properties. The best candidates will argue for impact in multiple domains, spanning human behavior, economics, law, and technology. Candidates must have a commitment to public service, prioritizing success of our federal sponsors over the accrual of personal public reputation. Candidates do not need to have current accesses for classified information, but must be able to attain a Top Secret security clearance.

 

Key Functions:

  • Reverse engineering and analysis of embedded, cyber-physical, or mobile systems

  • Analysis of network protocols and distributed systems

  • Development and modeling of adversary behavior

  • Analysis of system assumptions, security properties, and cross-component vulnerabilities

  • Automation of Red Team activities


 












Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or similar field, and 3 years of experience

  • Understand the missions, domains and challenges of MITRE customers

  • Understand he/she will be fully responsible for deliverables-including definition, completion, and technical quality, as well as assuring consistency across the responsibility span

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Required Qualifications:


  • Proficiency with an assembly language (e.g., x86 or ARM) and compiler conventions

  • Proficiency with network traffic analysis at layer 3 and above

  • Proficiency with scripting and high-level programming languages

  • Ability to plan and execute projects with minimal supervision

  • Ability to attain a Top Secret level security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Proficiency with hardware analysis, including digital design principals, firmware frameworks, and JTAG or SPI interfaces.

  • Demonstrated security results in multiple relevant platforms

  • Prior experience with federal or national research entities

  • Interdisciplinary training complementing technology with social, legal, or economic domains
