The Aviation & Product Safety Department is looking for a Senior Aviation Safety Official (ASO)/ Flight Test Safety Engineer to join the Sikorsky Aviation Safety Operations team. This individual will be responsible for development, assessment and execution of safety requirements for engineering flight test operations, reporting directly to the Aviation & Product Safety Manager at Sikorsky’s Development Flight Center in West Palm Beach.

The Senior ASO will interface with local DCMA leadership and military customers, conducting Flight and Ground Safety Audits to ensure compliance with DCMA INST 8210 and safety policies for Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky. The Senior ASO will work with local Sikorsky test site leadership, flight test engineers, and operations personnel to ensure that all flight test safety hazards are identified, communicated and adequately mitigated. The Senior ASO will participate in flight test briefings, technical meetings, lead root cause investigations and approve corrective actions for incidents and near misses. The Senior ASO will maintain the site’s Aircraft Emergency Reaction Plan and schedule drills and monthly safety meetings to address all aviation operational risks

Position will be based at West Palm Beach with limited travel to Patuxent Naval Air Station, MD and Sikorsky’s main offices in Stratford

Basic Qualifications
Requires a minimum of 5 years of Aviation Safety (or related) experience. Requires aviation safety program leadership and audit experience. Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills are required. Requires database input, query, analysis, and reporting experience. Requires experience working with Microsoft Office suite for report writing, spreadsheet analysis, and presentation of charts, graphs and data in Power Point. Proven structured, team-oriented problem solving skills with emphasis on Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Operational Risk Management (ORM) leadership

Desired skills
Requires a B.S. degree in Aviation Safety, Engineering, Physical Science or a technical field related to aerospace safety. A Master’s degree in Engineering, Human Factors or Aviation Safety is preferred

Flight Test or Human Factors experience with an aviation and technical background is strongly desired. Rotorcraft flying or maintenance operations experience is preferred
