Description: The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) in Atlanta, GA is seeking an experienced Information Technology professional to deploy and maintain sponsored research project systems and support networks. This position requires the candidate to possess an in-scope DoD Clearance. The Secure Infrastructure Support Engineer is expected to take a complex set of system parameters, then use cybersecurity guidance from DoD sponsors and agencies to implement secure, compliant systems in support of multiple sponsored research projects. The candidate will also be expected to maintain such systems, including but not limited to, performing full system documentation under RMF, securing and updating systems using Security Technical Implementation Guidelines, and deploying system updates to hardware and software.

GTRI is hiring two individuals for this role. One role will be based at GTRI's location in Midtown, Atlanta. The other role will be based in our Smyrna location at the Cobb County Research Facility. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create specifications and security profiles for secure IT systems based on customer, DoD, and GTRI requirements.
  • Interpret technical controls from the DAAPM and JSIG, providing IT solutions to security requirements.
  • Implement secure IT systems based on the above criterion.
  • Install, maintain and upgrade servers, networking equipment, workstations, peripheral hardware, and software within a secure space.
  • Perform flaw remediation under RMF Continuous Monitoring requirements, including scanning, remediation, and validation.
  • Analyze and resolve complex workstation, application and server related problems.
  • Provide users with assistance in working in specific applications.
  • Participate in development of standard operating procedures.
  • Utilize PowerShell or other scripting languages to perform automation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/ I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or similar technical field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Master’s degree in Information Technology or similar technical field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Information Technology or similar technical field of study and and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Information Technology or similar technical field of study.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Certifications: Security+ or equivalent IAT-II
  • Skills: Candidate must have experience deploying and creating secure IT environments. This job requires advanced knowledge of and skill in the installation and maintenance of information technology hardware and software, requiring a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures. Included are skills in problem solving, decision making, customer service, system documentation and communications.
  • US Citizen; no foreign ties.
  • Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred Work Experience: 3-5 years job related experience.
  • Preferred Certifications: CISSP or equivalent IAT-III or higher
  • Preferred Skills: Experience deploying and creating secure IT environments, specifically including experience implementing Security Technical Implementation Guidelines or other hardening under the Risk Management Framework. Experience performing Security Control Automation Protocol scans for systems under C&A approval and RMF approval. Experience with Windows Server 2016, Windows 10 Secure Host Baseline; McAfee HBSS / ePO, including AV, HIPS, PA modules; Nessus or ACAS; Jira, Jira ServiceDesk, Confluence, Kanban implementations within JIRA.
