Job Details

The SSCH must be able to perform the Satellite Systems Operator (SSO), Ground Systems Engineer (GSO) and Mission Management Operator (MMO) functions, after being trained

The SSO portion of the SCCH job will perform all commanding and State of Health (SOH) activities for one or more space assets and provide real-time evaluation of the satellite TT&C application while also being able to perform the following SSO functions: configure and monitor the TT&C application for proper monitoring of all satellites supporting the SBIRS mission; monitor the satellite telemetry for proper vehicle performance; evaluate TT&C alarms for possible anomalous conditions onboard the satellites and report any abnormal findings; perform all satellite commanding for daily station keeping operations as approved by the SCCH or Air Force customer; and coordinate with the GSO for the configuration of ground hardware for satellite commanding

The GSO portion of the SCCH job provides the technical capability in the area of Ground Control (GC) and will configure and maintain the GC application while also being able to perform the following GSO functions: perform all ground system activities; conduct positional changeover; configure ground system assets to maintain mission operations; inform the System Crew Chief (SCCH) of upcoming scheduled activities or maintenance; monitor ground software/hardware status; provide ground status to the appropriate operational crew members; perform Fault Detection Fault Isolation (FDFI) recovery actions when required; provide real-time configuration changes to prohibit data interruptions; notify the SCCH of all ground system reconfigurations and problems; support playbacks for analysis; conduct Air Force Satellite Control Network and Relay Ground Station support to collect satellite positional information; and, resolve real-time scheduling conflicts in coordination with the SCCH.

The MMO functions of the SCCH job provide technical expertise in the area of mission management and reviews mission management activities at the start of the each shift while also being able to perform the following MMO functions: provides information to the LEOT Crew Lead (LCL), when available, with synopsis of the planned activities; format and submit all ad-hoc Universal Tasking Requests (UTR); coordinate with intelligence sources; coordinate with the System Crew Chief (SCCH) for ground and space systems tasks that may be impacted due to schedule changes; generate candidate plans and schedules for ad-hoc requests; notify the SCCH and/or LCL of schedule impacts due to unexpected events; verify the proper parameter files are available when schedule changes occur; distribute promoted schedules to external agencies via CKNet; perform memo-gram actions impacting promoted schedules; promote candidate schedules when approved by the LEOT Crew Lead (LCL) or other, qualified crew member; inform SCCH of any expected File Availability Notification (FAN) messages; transfer parameter files, while out of view, to the required locations for the upcoming HEO rev, if applicable; manage the promoted schedule and changes to the schedule to account for ad-hoc changes and real-time schedule adjustments; and, have knowledge of all scheduled tasks to include any prerequisites or post requisites, priorities, and windows of execution to facilitate schedule changes

Provide clear communications of upcoming events to the oncoming crew members during crew changeover briefings

Required Skills/Education: Associates or Bachelors degree and 6-11 years of satellite-related experience required. Military experience can be substituted for degree.

*Candidate must currently hold (and have the ability to maintain) a DoD Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility required

• Demonstrated ability to identify technical issues, and provide technical recommendations for system issues and anomaly responses
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong personal interaction skills
• Must be able to work rotational shifts

Desired skills
• Demonstrated experience in the area of Telemetry, Tracking and Commanding (TT&C), Ground Control (GC), and Mission Management (MM) scheduling operations
• Demonstrated experience with on-orbit satellite operations and direct service to Air Force customer
• Demonstrated experience monitoring and analyzing satellite telemetry
• Demonstrated experience maintaining situational awareness of mission management scheduling activities
• Demonstrated ability to identify scheduling issues, and provide real-time changes to the mission management plan
