Do you have a solid understanding of RF/Microwave circuit design and like to research new directions? Do you have an applied research attitude and want to work in a dynamic and international environment? Then this is the job you are looking for!

As an RF Electronics Engineer at ASTRON you will work on the research and development of RF/Microwave electronics for the next generation of radio telescopes. Your primary activities will be a combination of electronics design and applied research into novel technologies and concepts. Your responsibilities include a contribution to the research program of the R&D division through studies, publications and collaboration with national and international universities and other research groups. You will get the chance to work on cutting edge technologies and scientific instruments.


The RF Electronics Engineer we are looking for has:

  • a PhD in Electrical Engineering,
  • experience with the design, layout and testing of discrete component RF/Microwave circuit designs,
  • the ability to work in collaboration with other disciplines, in particular antenna design, and
  • is able to independently define and execute technology research.
  • A few years of working experience after PhD is preferred.

The organization:

ASTRON, the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy, is located just outside Dwingeloo. Our mission is to make discoveries in radio astronomy happen. We are a world-wide leader on the development of array antennas for radio astronomy. We have developed and built phased arrays of 100,000+ elements operating between 10 and 250 MHz (LOFAR), and L-band phased array feeds for the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope. Our research and development aims at continuously improving the performance and cost-effectiveness of this technology for future telescopes, such as the Square Kilometre Array.
