Description: GTRI's Information and Communications Laboratory (ICL) in Atlanta, GA, is seeking an RF Electrical Engineer to join its mission of conducting applied research for analysis, design, development, test, and evaluation of prototype systems.  Responsibilities will include design and development of large scale RF test networks, development and testing of analog, digital, and RF chassis, and development and testing of mixed analog, digital, and RF circuit cards.  Activities are focused on the analysis and development of complete systems including hardware-in-the-loop emulation, system modeling and simulation, deployable prototype/first generation systems, lab test sets, and field test instrumentation. 

Candidates must have a interest in development and delivery of working prototypes and final products. Candidates must also enjoy working with a wide range of equipment, developing in a team environment, and designing and developing cutting edge hardware. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with an advanced degree preferred.

This opportunity is within the Information and Communication Lab ( ICL ). ICL conducts research that solves complex problems in areas of defense system prototypes, electronic warfare, test systems, electromagnetic propagation, computer science, information technology, communications, networking, and socio-technical systems.

The position is based in Atlanta, GA, and will include approximately 10% travel.  The selection process will include passing a pre-employment background screening.


  • Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen who can possess (or currently possesses) at least a DOD SECRET security clearance
  • Strong RF Communications and electromagnetic theory knowledge
  • Background in RF design and electromagnetic theory knowledge
  • Background in printed circuit design and layout for analog and digital circuits
  • Strong, organization, and communication abilities
  • Ability to work well individually or in a group setting
  • Ability to effectively present technical information

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  •  A BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics or an appropriate field

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree Electrical Engineering, Physics or an appropriate field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,


  • GNURadio, C/C++, Python
  • MATLAB, LabView
  • Familiarity with Linux and open source tools
