Research Engineer I – RF Communications Electrical Engineer
Communications, Systems, and Spectrum Division
Information and Communications Lab

Full-time, permanent position available starting January 2017.  Looking for an electrical engineer with systems design, fabrication, and radio frequency (RF) communications laboratory and field testing experience.  The candidate should have knowledge of RF radio characterization techniques and tools.  The candidate should also have excellent software programming skills including C++ and Matlab.  Candidate should also have knowledge of digital communications theory and application.  The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

The projects are based in 250 14th St, NW, Atlanta, on the Georgia Tech campus. Some travel will be required in deploying and testing communication networks and in other duties.

The initial work assignment would include support of multiple projects involving communication system design, integration with various platforms, some coordination with customers and vendors, and rigorous testing in both laboratory and field environments.  Some modeling and simulation of communication and electronic warfare devices may be required as well as software development supporting systems being developed and tested.  Other duties include project task and system documentation, and communication with other project staff and project directors to ensure that projects are efficiently executed and provide research and testing products that best meet customers’ needs.

Successful candidates will be expected to have strong communication and leadership skills are highly desired in addition to strong technical competence.

Candidate must be a US citizen eligible for a security clearance. An active clearance is not required at time of application.


CSSD (Communications, Systems and Spectrum Division).

CSSD works with its key federal customers in modeling, designing, integrating and deploying Radio Frequency (RF) communication systems and networks.  Cutting edge research work includes customizing and deploying small scale commercial cellular and satellite networks, developing software defined radio applications to improve link performance and increase spectrum efficiency, implementing and integrating 4G LTE systems in a tactical environment and modeling communication environments to test other tactical systems.
