In support of this mission, ELSYS seeks to hire a Research Associate/Scientist/Engineer. Primary job functions consists of research activities and procurement management as defined below.  Approximately 70% of the job function will be research activities and 30% will be procurement management.

Research Activities

  • Research and define sources for critical project components and subsystems per program requirements and applicable specifications
  • Generate requirements and specifications for product development and delivery
  • Create research products, including research reports, documentation and project deliverables
  • Conduct investigations of form-fit-function (FFF) replacements of components and subsystems with diminishing manufacturing sources (DMS)
  • Perform Analysis of alternatives (AoA) research and generate reports for components and subsystems with DMS issues
  • Manage and prioritize acquisition and delivery of materials and supplies required for projects
  • Coordinate with Project Directors (PD) to understand technical requirements, schedules, and critical program milestones
  • Support research management, including planning and execution of schedule, budget and program risk analysis
  • Conduct analysis of current Hardware/Software engineering processes, ISO 9001 gap analysis, and establishment of ISO 9001 compliant processes in support of quality and process improvements for the laboratory

Procurement Management

  • Maintain the GTRI Procurement Plan and update changes to procurement policy and procedures
  • Manage Lab procurement process and purchasing system
  • Interface with Accounting and GT Procurement to understand purchasing monetary limits and guidelines
  • Assist Project Directors in project close-out procedures including encumbered material disposition and project deliveries
  • Act as a liaison between Project Directors and other involved parties during order processing (Accounting, GT Procurement, Vendor, Warehouse)
  • Assist Project Directors with program procurement management and property tracking of components and subsystems required for sponsored program execution
  • Assist in the development of competitive bid documentation
  • Assist in the development of Sole Source and Sole Brand documentation

EDUCATION & & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

B.S., B.A., M.S. or M.A. (depending on position rank below)

 Research Associate I or Research Engineer I or Research Scientist I

Bachelor’s degree and up to 3 years of relevant experience.

 Research Associate II or Research Engineer II or Research Scientist II

A Master’s degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,

A Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree

REQUIREMENTS THAT MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • US Citizenship
  • DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain a clearance within six months after your employment with the Georgia Tech Research Institute begins.
  • BS or BA in a technical field and/or management/business administration

PREFERRED SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to work independently and with only general direction.
  • Experience with software tools used to coordinate projects, schedules, and engineering tasks.
  • Must have the ability to identify the right problems and act toward solutions (i.e. initiative).
  • Must have the ability to work with, and in some cases, direct and oversee tasking of technical staff in support of sponsor requirements.
  • Work well with others in a team setting
  • Work well under pressure and deadlines
  • Must be organized and multi-tasker
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities
  • Some understanding of simple accounting/finance
  • Experience in an acquisition and/or project management environment
