At TU Dresden, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Institute of Circuits and Systems, the Chair of Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering is offering a position starting from 01.02.2018 as

Research Associate
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 14 TV-L)

until 30.12.2020 in the framework of the project "NeuroESP - Assistance system to warn against epileptic seizures", funded by the Free State of Saxony. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. habilitation thesis).
The aim of the research project is the development of a mobile system that enables telemedical monitoring of epileptic patients and a reliable prediction of epileptic seizures. Novel, powerful methods need to be developed, implemented on an appropriate signal processing platform, and finally validated in clinical settings.
Tasks: scientific leadership and research on EEG signal analysis and coordination of the complex research project "NeuroESP", including representation and external presentation of activities and results; strategy management in terms of scientific objectives; monitoring and evaluation of scientific project results; scientific advice, coordination, control and quality assurance for new research approaches and corresponding project goals within the consortium, such as in meetings and workshops; innovation management and transfer considerations regarding scientific outcomes; scientific idea scouting for innovative research approaches and new applications; scientific direction, coordination and creation of applications for research projects resulting from intermediate results; scientific research in the field of (biomedical) signal processing on a particularly high level of academic excellence, including the preparation of international scientific publications in the research network.
Requirements: very good to good university degree in the field of electrical engineering, physics or related fields and PhD in a suitable field or comparable international qualifications with many years of relevant professional experience, especially in (biomedical) signal processing, machine learning and theory of nonlinear systems, and preferably experience in the management of projects; the ability and willingness for independent, conceptual work in a team; interest in practice-oriented, interdisciplinary cooperation with cooperation partners from the clinic and industry; good German and English skills are essential.
