We are looking for ambitious research leaders to help us build on our established international reputation in microwave through THz engineering and multiple-antenna systems as part of our vision to be a global leader in physical layer wireless technologies.  We therefore seek highly qualified candidates who can build and grow innovative, mission-led research programmes to make significant contributions in tackling real-world problems, by identifying and enabling new forms of interdisciplinary research and education. This recruitment is central to our ambitious expansion plans allowing us to deliver against Queen’s Vision 2020 and beyond.

You will be appointed to the Centre for Wireless Innovation (CWI) in the Global Research Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology (ECIT). You will also be a member of the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EEECS).  ECIT and EEECS are part of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences.  CWI’s internationally competitive research on physical layer wireless technologies and systems is globally recognised for its quality. Each of the 13 faculty members within CWI leads their own research team working with a wide range of industrial and international academic collaborators and the Centre has around 50 PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. We aim to address the challenges of modern society by developing new ideas and techniques to enable ubiquitous, robust and secure connectivity. Our main objectives are: pursuing high-impact research and commercialisation of advanced wireless-centric technologies; training highly-skilled researchers capable of contributing internationally; and facilitating, through commercial exploitation, societal requirements using wireless technology and techniques.

We seek candidates who share, and can help realise, these aims. Your ability to develop practical applications from theoretical aspects of your research, combined with significant academic leadership experience will strengthen our physical layer work in microwaves through THz systems research and we have particular interest in multiple antenna solutions including massive MIMO, intelligent and embedded antennas, electromagnetic sensing and surveillance, and the creation and system integration of novel RF /millimetre wave/TeraHertz technologies.

Teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level and administrative duties will be appropriate for career stage and will be commensurate with ECIT’s expectation to grow and maintain a strong research program.  You will inspire students and facilitate motivational learning, supported by world-class teaching and research facilities, and will work with engineering and commercial teams to translate your research to real-world impact.

Salary scale:            

Reader: £49,772 - £63,008 per annum (including contribution points)

Professor:      Salary will be determined in accordance with the appropriate Professorial ranges as applied within the University.
