Job Details

We are seeking a Systems Engineer on the Mk21 Common/Adaptable Fuze Qualification Department (Org. 2342) to join the qualification team in support of requirements verification for qualification activities. This position includes leading requirements verification methodology development followed by the collection and tracing of evidence. This position requires engineering understanding of constituent fuzing technologies to ensure first principles approach to requirements verification. This systems engineering approach will ensure that requirements verification tracing and tracking are consistent with overall measured AFA performance in the final delivered product. A primary focus area will be mapping verification evidence for AFA qualification. This position will include coordination with those responsible for managing requirements review, release and change control. In addition, requirements verification activities include working directly with each component PRT to collect evidence generated at the component level as well as the AFA level to promote proper sharing of information along with the necessary tracking in DOORS. This program supports AFA subsystem design, qualification and integration into Air Force ICBM weapon systems for the Mk21/W87.

On any given day, you may be asked to:

  • Manage requirements verification architecture, definition, traceability in DOORS
  • Perform requirements verification tracking of qualification evidence generated by test, analysis, demonstration or inspection
  • Coordinate and execute various reviews and sponsor interactions in support of Phase 6.X process
  • Execute document management and release for requirements verification evidence for AFA, qualification ultimately leading to a successful QER

Department Description:

The Mk21 Arming and Fuzing Assembly (AFA) Qualification Department (2342) is responsible for leading the qualification and requirements verification effort for the MK21 AFA. The Mk21 AFA is deployed into Air Force ICBM Weapon Systems. These fuze technologies share strong synergy with W88 ALT 370. Department 2338 is comprised of a diverse, multi-discipline team responsible for building, testing and verifying requirements to ensure successful qualification of the Mk21 AFA. The Mk21 AFA will require rigorous qualification testing including vibration, shock, thermal, electromagnetic, radiation environments, and flight tests. The department works collaboratively with the Mk21 AFA PRT department (2335) and many laboratory partners both internal and external to Sandia. This NW development project is engaged in robust development cycle which will progress through an aggressive design engineering test and evaluation phase followed by production engineering qualification leading to an FPU of 4QFY22.
