Description: This is a full-time research faculty position in the Integrated Analysis Branch (IAB) in the Threat Intelligence & Analytics Division within the Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research (CIPHER) Laboratory at the Georgia Institute of Technology (GTRI) - IAB focuses on developing and implementing machine learning based data analytics platforms and algorithms using open architecture software principles for industry, defense and intelligence communities. The Threat Intelligence Division develops custom algorithms and techniques to enhance cyber defense, threat intelligence, and situational awareness for industry, defense, and intelligence communities.  It integrates novel applied research in machine learning and human/machine collaborative systems into frameworks to discover, analyze, and mitigate cyber threats and vulnerabilities and enhance the capabilities of intelligence analysts.


Support ongoing software development where GTRI is providing tools for R&D programs. This will require Python software engineering skills.  Persons in this position will be tasked to modify a large research-grade python code, enhancing it in response to end user requirements and improving code maturity.


US Citizenship

M.S. in Computer Science or Software Engineering

Possess extensive, demonstrated experience with Python (3+ years) and PyQt, object oriented design and development, strong mathematical foundation, and problem solving skills. Five (5+ years) in software development/engineering, including requirements analysis, software development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution.

Willingness to work well in a team environment that includes both end users and fellow software developers.

Rank as a Research Engineer II / Research Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree.

Rank as a Senior Research Engineer I / Senior Research Scientist I

  • A Master’s degree and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree and four (4) years' relevant full-time experience.


Experience with developing hardware lab equipment software drivers in Python, GPIB programming, communication protocols (TCP/IP) stack, client/server networking, GUI development, UML sequence diagrams. Experience with FPGAs a plus.

Configuration management tools (git, Jira, Stash) and development environments (Eclipse, PyDev).

Scientific tool development (Python using numpy, scipy, and matplotlib)

Research experience in machine learning.

Software development experience in additional languages (Java, C++, C, etc.).

DoD Top Secret clearance or ability to obtain a clearance within six months after your employment with Georgia Tech Research Institute begins is required.
